WOW!!! Since my return to London from performing in Portugal I have been out non-stop!!

Sunday night - Went to Frank McComb's gig and hung out with him after. Frank KILLED it!!

Monday night - Went to see Robert Glasper Experiment. They KILLED it!!

Tuesday night - Went to see Patrice Rushen and Ndugu Chancler and hung with Patrice after. They KILLED it!!

Wednesday night - Played a gig with Manuela Panizzo at the Alfred Dunhill club. We KILLED it!!

Finally tonight, Thursday, I AM NOT GOING OUT ANYWHERE!!

WHAT A WEEK!!

Thanks to the help from Stéphane Chalangeas Lauwereins and the great venue, Arte e Manha, I played a super gig in Lisbon last Friday. No bull; I LOVE LISBON! Great people, great weather and a flagrant disregard for the law. Fantastic!

Hey guys and I hope that you have all been well! I have been busy!

This week I played on 3 tracks for Funky DL's upcoming Japanese release and I started teaching at the Institute of Contemporary Music in London. DL's upcoming album sounds fantastic so please check out his website! 

Coming up, I am performing at the Amy Winehouse tribute. I will also perform with Los Charly's Orchestra in Ibiza(!!), Cargo with Z-Star, the Queen's Tennis Club with my band, Taranto in Italy with Lyric L and of course my gigs in London.

Also in a couple of months, I am performing at Hanwell Carnival and the venerable Ealing Jazz Festival. Our Ealing Jazz Festival performance this year will be celebrating the music of Quincy Jones!

My 10 Piece Band (yes!) will play a selection of killer tunes recorded, arranged or produced by Quincy so get your ears ready for a harmonic / rhythmic extravaganza.

Xantoné Blacq's album "Revelation" has made a New Entry into the UK Soul Chart at no.27!  Fingers crossed that its chart position will continue to rise.

Xan has also been invited to come and speak about the album and his music on Colourful Radio on Wednesday 11 April at 3.30 pm UK Time, which is wonderful.

I  was by no means a Billy Paul fan before watching this documentary but I have been converted as a result of this film. It is a great documentary that has a very strong human interest story and gives a unique insight into what happened to a lot of artists in the 70s and 80s. Very honest , entertaining and educational. It also has some great archive footage and clips of music from Mr Paul's discography. Wonderful and a steal at 99p rental!!

What a great gig in Rotterdam at the Grounds venue. The Rotterdam-ese if such a word exists should be really proud of the great musical talent in their city. Sly & The Family Stone should also be incredibly proud of the musical legacy that they have left us. Amazing!

Wow! The gig at Floridita this Thursday just gone was super killing! It is a true honour and blessing to be a member of a fellowship of such amazingly creative people. No egos; just ridiculously high levels of great music.

This Sunday, our Odyssey continues in the guise of the West London Soul Society.

We will be laying down some stupidly funky grooves on Sunday 18th March at The Old Pack Horse, Chiswick, Lodon W4 5TF. 4-6pm, Free Entry. Be there or be Square!!

The Floridita gig will be more of a "party vibe" gig in a great Central London setting whereas the Sunday gig features an event I have started called the West London Soul Society so you can expect to hear my music alongside tunes by Bobby Caldwell, Rufus, The Kinks, Cream, Prince The Beatles and so much more all done in a Soulful way!

Also any of you guys that are musicians, please come down and sing or play on Sunday!

Xan and his new band, Xan Blacq & The Flamin' Galahs will start a fortnightly residency at The Old Pack Horse on Chiswick's picturesque High Road. The name of the event will be the West London Soul Society and there'll be special guests performing Soul, Funk, Jazz and Latin music along with the band.

If you haven't already picked up a copy of Nigel Kennedy's The Four Elements album do yourself a favour and get it today. I was listening to it earlier while taking a shower (ha!) and of all the albums that I have recorded with Nigel, this one has the best sound and absolutely top-class songwriting and performances. The strings just sound great!! Check it out!
